Oh, my!

Darron kindly sent me a tub of his forthcoming 1912 soap to try out and my first impression was just how similar to vintage soap this one behaves.

Upon arrival, damp brush, 10 swirls in either direction and a quick lather up in a bowl as a test. It quickly became that thick, bound lather in no time. More water and it just built, more, built more. No over-foaminess, just thick and well bound lather.

The next thing to grab my attention was the scent. As with Super Smooth, the scent is citrus over vanilla and caramel. It's Cola. Something different, though - this is quite different! It's really different! Where Super Smooth was a soap with a scent, 1912 is a scented soap. The scent really is part of the soap; genuinely part of its character. More so, too, it's really pronounced. Not as caricature as it was in Super Smooth, it's really mature now.

Oh, my!

For my shave, I went with a big boar and straight onto my face. My 20 swirls gave plenty, the first lather building easily to produce a thick and dense cushion that was rapidly over-paintable. With the first pass done, the re-lather just wanted a splash of water on my face and a second painting with a few swirls got me sorted for the next pass.

I will be using this soap for the coming week and will no doubt have it dialled in really quickly, assessing how it plays over that period. I am really looking forward to it. More to come ...

Oh, my!
