I'm putting Wickham's forthcoming soap through its paces - it's called 1912 and it is really quite special. My first thought was, "Oh, my!".

The scent I'm enjoying is Club Cola, one familiar to Wickham's fans from the established Super Smooth line, but this time it's more so ... it's so much more defined and so much more integral to the soap; not so much a soap with a scent, truly a scented soap.

The citrus is strong! Not writhing up your nose like fresh lemon spritz, but deep, sublime, perhaps a little mysterious as preserved lemons. That's backed up with vanilla and caramel, a pair of flankers set just right that the lemon remains the Kingpin. Stunning!

I decided to go with a double edge razor - yes, me who derides the use of double edge razors and lauds the single edge, yes, I went with a double edge razor from my somewhat extensive collection of Gillette Techs. I like 'em, you see ... for fondling, like a secret perversion.

Anyway, yes, I went with a double edge razor: the Gillette Hybrid Tech. Gillette Silver Blue strapped in and a super shave was had! I like the Hybrid - it's got the head weight of the Gillette New with all the character of the flat bottomed, twin slotted Tech.

When I used Wickham's 1912 for the first time the other night, it struck me that my initial thoughts were all positive and that often comes across as zealotry, as unbalanced. I went over and over, looking for something negative about this soap, but I'm not finding it - perhaps the first go, the over-paintability could have been better, but with tonight's lathering that's just not so. Over-paintability is just fine. I've really clicked with the soap and it's truly quite something.

Personally, I cannot wait to see what the new scents will be - we know Club Cola is in and we know Spice Trade is in, scents from the Super Smooth range. We'll just have to sit tight and see what Darron has up his sleeve for this range - I gather it's going to be special.
